It's sad, it's wonderful, it's moving, it's heart-wrenching, it's far-fetched, it's true, it's great, it's...

Brokeback Mountain.
I saw it the other day, salamat sa inter-boarding house pirated DVD network, and it's great! Napaka-unnerving, napaka-profound, napakalungkot na pelikula. Ang galing, kasi Jack and Ennis never really meant to fall in love with one another, pero they did (one tender moment's reprieve from loneliness can illuminate a life, sabi nga ng review ng New York Times), and it lasted for twenty years. Gosh. Talk about the unexpected.
Magpahanggang ngayon, kapag naaalala ko 'yung kwento nilang dalawa, nalulungkot pa rin ako. Napakagaling kasi ng pagkakasulat, napaka-plausible, napaka-human ng pakiramdam. No wonder Annie Proulx or whatever her last name is is a Pulitzer prize awardee. 'Yung mga linya nila masyadong pang-tao: masyadong reflective ng mga kahinaan, kamalian, pangarap, at tunay na sitwasyon nila. Gaya na lamang nung "I wish I could quit you"-mula sa isang tao na sawa na talaga sa sitwasyon niya at ng taong mahal niya, pero at the same time cannot, or rather would not, really escape that situation because doing so would mean giving up whatever they share. Ang lungkot din kasi their love was a right love at the wrong place and time: hindi sila pwedeng magsama kasi taboo nga, at kinailangan nilang kapwa magpamilya para lang matugunan ang mga inaasahan sa kanilang social roles as sons, males, and later on, husbands and fathers. Ang sad talaga.
Hay. Hindi ko pa rin alam kung paano i-e-express ang mga hinuha ko as regards the film...a part of it still evades description by any means. My attempts to do so are rather futile, in fact, and I presume I'm doing a pretty bad job of it.
Gosh gosh gosh. Oh, well. Panoorin mo na lang 'yung film. Balak kong bumili ng soundtrack, pero kung mauunahan mo ako, Au, pahiram na lang ng maiburn. Yeba.

...which is why I feel bad that Brokeback Mountain lost the Oscar Best Picture to Crash. What could be better than this sincere, masterful story-telling about a love so "wrong" and real?
